29 - Lifestyle Changes

Warning: we tried our best to steer clear of a lot of spoilers for the games we discuss but understand that some things may have slipped during our conversations.

It’s a 2019 Game of the Year Podcast…in 2019! We normally don’t convene in December, so historically we give our Games of the Year in our January podcast. Things worked out a bit differently this year, so now you get it in a timely fashion!

This year was a very mixed bag in that there weren’t a lot of big releases. Very little felt like it popped in the way of major AAA releases from recent years. There wasn’t a Red Dead Redemption or a Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild to captivate the gaming audience. That doesn’t mean that it was a bad year for games. Case in point: Pokemon Sword and Shield. Even with such a late release in the year, it’s guaranteed to sell gangbusters, move Switch consoles, and remind us that it’s okay to feel happy when playing a game.

Fair warning: Pokemon did make several of our lists this year and there may be a fairly lengthy discussion on the latest entries in this month’s show. That’s okay though; it’s pretty damn deserving of the praise it’s been getting.

We totally did discuss a bunch of other games this month though so if you want the quick breakdown (in no particular order):
